You are expected to be available to attend college Monday to Friday 9am to 4.30pm.

1 day will be work placement in local school.

Course Description
Doncaster College has joined forces with the Doncaster Rovers FC to establish a Football Development Centre based at The Hub

The course is open to candidates that demonstrate a flair and potential for football and will receive six hours coaching and development per week along with a programme of weekly fixtures and regional competitions

Personal attributes - you should have good communication skills to undertake this course and be able to demonstrate a good level of skill, flair and potential for football

All candidates will be required to attend a compulsory taster course and complete a series of academic and practical skills tests (August)

Course Structure
The programme consists of various qualifications combined to create a unique course for talented individuals.

The BTEC National Certificate in Sport (Sports development and Fitness)

(Level 3) - consists of seven core units and five specialist units over 2 years:

Core Units - all seven units must be taken

  • The Body in Action
  • Health and Safety in Sport
  • Training and Fitness for Sport
  • Sports Coaching
  • Sports Development
  • Fitness Testing for Sport and Exercise
  • Practical Team Sports or Practical Individual Sports


Specialist units - five units must be taken

  • Sports and Exercise Massage
  • Working with Children in Sport
  • Work Based Experience in Sport
  • Rules, Regulations and Officiating in Sport
  • Sports Injuries
  • Outdoor and Adventurous Activities
  • Sports leadership
  • Nutrition for Sport
  • Instructing physical activity and exercise
  • Psychology for sport performance
  • Rule regulations and officiating in sport
  • Sport in society


Course Assessment
You will be assessed by various methods of performance observations, practical application, assignments, presentations, reports and projects. You will be expected to complete a key skills portfolio and online exams where applicable

Course Entry Requirements
  • 5 GCSEs A-C to include one or more of the following: Science, Mathematics and English
  • A BTEC First qualification in Sports Studies or a related discipline - at Merit profile
  • All applicants are required to successfully complete an induction course and a series of skill tests.

  • All applicants must complete an initial assessment in Maths and English and attend an interview
  • Your literacy skills must be at Level 2. Your numeracy skills must be at Level 2
  • There are opportunities for individuals that may not have the required academic qualifications, to gain entry by means of demonstrating high levels of relevant skills and experiences.
  • Alternatively the programme may be modified to meet individual learner needs


Course Costs
There are no course fees if you are under 19 years old on 31 August 2010. However, you may have to pay for textbooks, personal kits, uniforms, trips and personal stationery. You will be informed of these at your interview.

Course Enrichment
Activities such as trips and visits will be arranged, which are beneficial to this course and your learning. These activities are optional and additional fees will be charged to you. Details will be provided at the time of interview.
