WHY CHOOSE THIS COURSE?

This course has been developed with your future employability as its focus. By choosing to study at Coventry you will benefit from:

  • a course that is taught by a team of enthusiastic specialists in the field of global media and communication;
  • staff who will provide an introduction to current theoretical perspectives and debates in a friendly and stimulating setting;
  • an environment where you will be encouraged to make practical, critical and creative use of digital media (e.g. blogging, video, imaging etc.) as part of your assignments.

WHAT WILL I LEARN?

The course explores through current research and scholarship, the globalisation of the communication and media industries, media ownership and concentration, international agencies, the new communication order, and ethical/rights issues in global media.

By choosing specialist modules and undertaking a research project, you will investigate the role of the world’s dominant media organisations and the oppositional voices countering them.

There are opportunities to explore contested issues in depth through seminars, to participate in open forum discussions, and to explore particular interests leading to guided research and a substantial, supervised MA dissertation.
