Course A: Eearly Modern History.
This course is aimed at those who want to broaden their knowledge and understanding beyond the history studied at GCSE. The focus is on the Wars of the Roses and the reign of Henry VvIII. At A2 you will look at protest, crisis and rebellion in England during the 16th century and will have the opportunity to do a piece of coursework on The Golden Age of Spain.
Course B: Modern History.
This course is aimed at those who want to continue and deepen their knowledge of the 20th century. Over the two years you will study units on American history, including the USA in Asia, two units on Britain and the impact of the nationalist challenge in India and of fascism in Europe, and coursework based on Germany between 1890 and 1991.
In both courses the AS will build on the skills you have developed at GCSE whilst in the second year there will be more emphasis on essay writing and more critical evaluation of sources.
ENTRY RECOMMENDATIONS:
Grade C in History if taken. Newcomers to the subject are welcomed.
ASSESSMENT:
Course A and Course B: external exam and coursework.
PROGRESSION:
