In order to qualify for this course students will need; *(If 21 or under) 4 GCSE's grade C or above or equivalent. *(Over 21 years) Work experience and mature entry routes. An A level in law or the ILEX Certificate in Legal Studies may give exemption from some modules on the course.

What will I study?
Two one year courses leading to ILEX membership examinations Part 1. This is the first part of the journey to become a legal executive. This course is for people working in solicitors, barristers firms, courts, other legal environments or people who wish to enter this field. The course is run on a part-time basis on Tuesday & Thursday between 6pm-8pm. Successful legal executives can do quite senior work and are able to move on to qualify as solicitors. The course is assessed by external examinations. It is possible to combine the first year with the ILEX Legal Secretarial Diploma.
How can I progress?
Successful candidates can progress to Part 2 of the ILEX membership examinations. On successful completion of the Certificate you can progress on to the Diploma in Law and Practice in Year 2.

Course Structure
Whilst studying towards this qualification the following modules will be covered; Certificate in Law & Practice *Introduction to Law & Practice In which the learner will understand key underpinning concepts, terms and processes in Law and the practice of Law. *Client Care Skills In which the learner will develop key professional skills, values and understanding in identifying and addressing the needs of clients. *Legal Research Skills In which the learner will develop key reserch skills and understanding across a range of sources of law. *Criminal Law In which the learner will understand key concepts, terms and processes in the area of Criminal Law, e.g. the offences of murder, manslaughter, theft and criminal damage and defences to these charges. *Criminal Litigation In which the learner will understand key concepts, terms and processes in the area of Criminal Litigation, from arrest to sentence and appeals. Diploma in Law & Practice *Contract Law In which the learner will understand key concepts, , terms and processes in the area of Contract Law, i.e. how a legally binding contract can be made and unmade. *Civil Litigation In which learners will understand key concepts, terms and processes in the area of Civil Litigation, i.e. how to commence and proceed with a civil claim in relation to issues such as Personal Injury; Debt Recovery, Housing and Employment. *Law of Tort - In which learners will understand key concepts, terms and processes in the area of Tort e.g. negligence, nuisance and occupier liability. *Land Law - In which learners will understand key concepts, terms and processes in the area of Land Law. *Conveyance - In which learners will understand key concepts, terms and processes in the area of Conveyance.
