Course description
Who can join?
If you have 5 Access Level 2 or the equivalent, or relevant life experience, this course will not only help you to increase your educational, practical and social skills, it will also give you practical experience on a work placement in the community, supported by college staff and on taster vocational courses within the College.

How do I attend?
You attend for three and a half days a week in Thurso or three and a half days in Brora both of which include a half days work placement. The course usually starts in August, but entry to the College at other times of the year is at the discretion of the Course Tutor. The course is currently based in The NHC-Thurso and the Community Learning Centre, Brora.

What will I study?
All our students work towards gaining training and qualifications which will help them get the right job. (You will also have moving and handling, first aid and food hygiene training as required before going out on a work placement).

You will study the following SQA units at Higher Still Access Level 3: computing; communications; numeracy, practical cookery skills and personal and social development. You will also take classes in literacy, vocational skills and vocational profiling, and undertake 6 vocational taster courses.

You may take up an employment opportunity which is appropriate to your skills, or you may wish to apply for an SVQ Level 1 or Intermediate 1 course in College.How can I join?
