Level 1 Beauty Therapy

This qualification is aimed at learners who are interested in obtaining the skills to work in a beauty salon as an assistant, or who want to progress onto Level 2 Beauty Therapy. Learners need to have good attendance, time keeping and enjoy talking with and meeting new people
Entry RequirementsFour GCSEs grade E-F including English. Acceptance will be by interview, satisfactory reference and diagnostic assessment.
Course Content
The award is designed to give students the skills to work as a beauty therapy assistant within a salon environment as well as be able to offer mini services to support the employer.

Study areas include:·Health & Safety·Reception Duties·Preparing and maintaining working areas·Assisting with facial and nail treatments·Basic anatomy and physiology·Basic customer service skills

Students also develop entry level salon managerial skills to raise awareness of risk assessment.
All the learners have the opportunity to go on various industry related trips and visits to emplyers throughout their training.Opportunities are available to do taster courses in nail art, ear piercing, nail extension(at additional cost)as well as Bellitas and Dermalogica training for all learners.
How will I be assessed?
Assessment is ongoing throughout the year, with direct obervationof skills in a practical setting, formal examinations, and completion of a comprehensive portfolio. this will include formative assessments in the manner of assignments, group work, poster work, presentations and task sheets.
What can I do next?
Further training including NVQ Level 2 Beauty, Level 2 Certificate in Nail Treatments(manicure and pedicure), Level 2 Cosmetic Make up, Level 2 Depiliation Certificate or Beauty Therapy Assistant. Students can also look for emplyment as a salon receptionist, in customer service or personnel roles.
