Course programme

Given the abundance of diet and nutrition information available today most of us are aware of the importance of healthy eating. Indeed, a healthy diet is paramount to overall good health. But which are the best foods to include in your daily diet, and which are the best avoided - and why?

Based on sound knowledge and principles this course provides clear, concise no-nonsense information and teaches you the important facts about health and nutrition. This beautifully written, simplified material explains how to improve or maintain your own health and that of your family and friends.

Course Outline:
Nutrition & Health - Module 1: The Basics (approx. 80 pages)
Part I - The Principle Nutrients and their Food Sources.
This covers the basic science of the bulk nutrients: carbohydrates, protein and fats. A good understanding of these is important if you are to get the best from the food you eat.

Part II - Cellular Energy - The Origin of our Health and Vitality. Simply put, your overall energy and ability to maintain health depends on the energy that every single cell of your body generates. Here you learn all about how this energy is produced (the principles, not the chemical detail!) from the food that you eat.

Part III - Creating and Maintaining Health and Vitality. Explaining the importance of mineral balance within each body cell to achieve overall health and vitality, this truly develops an understanding of health from the 'grass roots'.

Part IV - Cleansing and Detoxification. Each of your body cells need to excrete waste and toxins to remain vital and active. Once this waste is released, you will learn the importance of the liver in excreting them from the body. The key principles upon which well designed 'detox' programmes are based are explained here.

Nutrition & Health - Module 2: Vitamins and Minerals (approx 70 pages)
Part I - The Minerals.
This emphasises and explains the importance of the individual minerals contained within your food. It explains their key roles and characteristics and how they contribute to energy production and maintain vital cellular health.

Part II - The Vitamins. Vitamins are also needed to produce energy and increase vitality. Here their differing functions and characteristics are explained.

Nutrition & Health - Module 3: Digestive Health & Making Educated Food Choices (approx. 80 pages)

Part I - Bowel Flora and its Importance to Health. This explains how the complex population of bacteria in the intestines contribute to maintaining vitality and health. As the ancient Greek physician Hippocrates wrote "death sits in the bowels" - how these bacteria aid cleansing and the maintenance of a good environment, so essential to good health within the body, cannot be over emphasised. Includes how to nurture your own bowel flora.

Part II - Eating for Health and Vitality. This identifies foods that help the body to cleanse and detoxify - and those that interfere with the smooth running of the body in this respect. You will also learn the foods to choose in order to maintain balanced blood sugar levels - a simple concept that is very powerful when put into practice, helping eliminate unpleasent symptoms such as daytime fatigue, irritability, cravings and loss of concentration.

Part III - The Composition of Foods. The composition of various foods and the main differences between them is explained here, enabling you to design your own personalised healthy diet plan.

Part IV - Allergies, Intolerances and Sensitivities. This introduces you to the highly topical (and often confusing) area of allergies - what they are; their signs and symptoms; the most frequent allergies; their causes (food, chemical, emotional and mental); stages of allergy, the different types, food additives and chemicals; allergy testing and its limitations - and most importantly how best to manage them.

Nutrition & Health - Module 4: Pulling it All Together (approx. 50 pages)

Part I - Designing Diets. This provides clear guidance on designing a nutritionally balanced diet that, compared to most ordinary diets, should improve health.

Part II - The Use of Supplements - Principles and Guidance. Explains and demystifies the subject of vitamin and mineral supplements and their use. This enables you to design simple supplement programmes to maintain and improve health.
