Qualifications include: -Level 3 Subsidiary Diploma in Business -Level 2 in Fitness Instructing (with the opportunity to progress onto Level 3 Personal Trainer depending on Level 2 results) -Level 3 Certificate Sports Massage Therapy You will study the business environment, business resources, marketing, business communication, exercise physiology, principles of health, fitness and exercise, designing and managing fitness programmes, anatomy and physiology and health and safety. Additionally you will be looking at managing and adapting a personal training programme, pre, inter and post sports massage. This programme is ideally suited for those with a genuine interest in business, sports therapy and fitness, but who also have the ability and determination to succeed. We ask that applicants are ideally actively involved with a sports team or health and fitness club as this will enhance their research. There is an expectation for all sport and business students to take part in college enrichment activities, before lessons and on Wednesday afternoons, throughout the year. This programme will provide you with an opportunity to gain an insight into the wide and diverse nature of this growing sector. The programme retains a strong academic base, whilst including practical units and modules. You will need to be confident, self- motivated and a good communicator as this will stand you in good stead for your research work as well as your work placement. You will complete projects and assignments that are based on realistic workplace situations, activities and demands and learn about the employment area you have chosen, growing the skills you need to start a career. You will develop both knowledge and understanding of the sports and fitness industry as well as develop important practical and organisational skills to support their progression in business. The business side of this qualification is equivalent to an A Level, which means that on completion of the programme you can continue onto another sports related or event management programme at Eastleigh College to boost your UCAS points to allow progression onto Higher Education, or you can go into employment using your business knowledge and your nationally recognised industry qualifications in Sports Massage and Gym Instruction. With our help, all students are expected to organise a relevant work placement each year. In addition to this, you are expected to help voluntarily at college enrichment and sporting events around the college and with local business and charity events. All students without an A*-C grade in English or Maths will be required, as a condition of the programme, to undertake either a GCSE or Functional Skills programme.Throughout the year assessment for both the practical and theory Business units is undertaken using a variety of assessment methods and styles. Each assignment will be graded at Pass, Merit or Distinction level and contributes to the unit and overall programme grades. Each of the units will have three to five assignments. These assignments may be reports, presentations, practical assessments or research projects. Sports Massage and Gym Instructors have externally set multiple choice papers and portfolios of evidence are required of both coursework and voluntary work. Attendance in the College is an average of 16 hours per week of contact time, in addition to this it is expected for students to complete a further 8-12 hours of independent study both in college and at home. This programme can only be studied as a Subsidiary Diploma.
