Course programme

Pathway 1: Logistics Operative

This pathway totals 40 credits which includes competence, knowledge, the ERR qualification and three functional skills of English, Maths and ICT.

A minimum of 20 credits must be chosen from the combined qualification Edexcel level 2 Certificate in Logistics Operations made up as follows:

Mandatory units

  • Health, Safety and Security at Work (1 credit for competence; 2 for knowledge)
  • Develop effective working relationships with colleagues in logistics operations (2 credits for competence; 2 for knowledge)
  • Contribute to the provision of customer service in logistics operations (2 credit for competence; 1 for knowledge)
  • Make effective contribution to a business in the logistics sector (2 credit competence; 1 for knowledge)

Option Group B

  • Prepare the van for driving (1 credit competence; 1 knowledge)
  • Protect the van and the load (1 credit competence; 1 for knowledge)
  • Prepare the rigid vehicle for driving and the load (1 credit competence; I for knowledge)
  • Protect the rigid vehicle and the load
  • Prepare the articulated/ drawbar vehicle for driving
  • Protect the articulated/ drawbar vehicle and the load
  • Obtain information on the collection and/ or delivery of loads

Option Group C

  • Pick goods in logistics operations (2 credits competence; 1 for knowledge)
  • Place goods in storage in logistics operations (2 credits competence; 2 knowledge)
  • Wrap and pack goods in logistics operations (2 credits for competence; 1 for knowledge)

Option Group D

  • Identify suitable collection or delivery points (1 credit competence; 1 knowledge)
  • Release vehicles for daily tasks (1 credit competence; 1 knowledge)
  • Monitor vehicle movements (1 credits competence; 1 knowledge)

ERR will be covered through a separate QCF award entitled Employee Rights and Responsibilities in the Logistic Industry.

Functional skills will be delivered through a number of taught sessions and tested at the Crawley campus.

Pathway 2: Logistics Support Operative

This pathway totals 38 credits which includes completence, knowledge, the ERR qualification and the two Functionsl skills of English and Maths.

A minimum of 20 credits must be chosen from the combined qualification Pearson Edevcel Level 2 Certificate in Logistics Support Operations made up as follows:

Mandatory units

  • Health, Safety and Security at Work (1 credit for competence; 2 for knowledge)
  • Develop effective working relationships with colleagues in logistics operations (2 credits for competence; 2 for knowledge)
  • Contribute to the provision of customer service in logistics operations (2 credit for competence; 1 for knowledge)
  • Make effective contribution to a business in the logistics sector (2 credit competence; 1 for knowledge)

Option Group B

  • Obtain information on the collection and/or delivery of loads
  • Plan the route and timings for the collection and delivery of goods
  • Process orders for customers in logistics operations
  • Pick goods in logistics operations
  • Wrap and pack goods in logistics operations
  • Receive goods in logistics operations
  • Sort goods and materials for recycling or disposal in logistics operations
  • Dealing with payment transactions in logistics operations
  • Keep work areas clean in logistics operations
  • Maintain the safety and security of hazardous goods and materials in logistics operations
  • Maintain hygiene standards in handling and storing goods in logistics operations
  • Principles of food safety in logistics
  • Maintain the cleanliness of equipment in logistics operations
