The course is an opportunity to learn through your hands. Experimenting with different materials and 3D techniques will give you a familiarity and confidence to go further with your creative artwork and get to know new materials with infinite possibilities.

About this course

• Build a small sculpture, using simple construction and joining skills
• Mix plaster
• Do a simple carving
• Produce a simple cast
• Be more familiar with workshop tools and related language
• Be aware of workshop good practice.

Basic materials will be provided but you are welcome to bring any extra or special materials.

How will I be taught and will there be any work outside the class?

Course programme

You will be introduced to some construction and joining techniques, try your hand at simple casting and basic carving, learn how to incorporate scale and proportion into your work and also use skills such as modelling and painting, should you wish. There will also be a chance to look more at different types of sculpture.
You will come away from the course having tried a wide menu of materials and having built at least one small sculpture. You will be more familiar with workshop tools and language.

This is an ideal starter course if you are thinking about exploring arts further or wanting to bring new energy to your practice.
