About the course
The Level 2 diploma is an excellent way of combining practical conservation skills with the corresponding theory, and putting it all into practice on wildlife sites and nature reserves; by undertaking this qualification you will gain lots of new skills and a varied understanding of working in the land-based sector. This course can be undertaken by volunteering with TCV, and carrying out work which takes place at various sites throughout Devon. There will be the opportunity to learn a variety of habitat management skills. Tasks typically include footpath construction, scrub and woodland management, drainage work, fencing, health and safety plus other opportunities dependent upon the season such as hedgelaying, coppicing and pond management.
The course is of a very practical nature with evidence being gathered for the compilation of a portfolio of evidence towards the qualification. Alongside the task days, office sessions are held to support the portfolio compilation and aid additional research.
Existing skills, qualifications or experience required
No prior skills or experience are needed; however the course requires reasonable levels of fitness and any previous experience of conservation activity would be advantageous, as would the ability to compile a portfolio of evidence under the guidance of a skilled Trainer / Assessor, although full support will be given.
How you achieve the qualification
You will have an assessor who will observe your practical skills while you work, and help you build up a portfolio of evidence towards the qualification.
