Is it right for me?
Under the Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment Regulations 1998 (LOLER), it is a legal requirement to carry out inspection of all arboricultural equipment that either lifts or lowers. This course has been designed for you if you work in arboriculture and need to carry out these inspections in the work place. The course leads to NPTC assessment which will take place on the final day of the course.

What qualifications will I need?
Minimum age 18 years. Tetanus protection is recommended.

What will I be learning about?
  • Understand legislation relating to the examination of arboricultural equipment
  • Identify a range of lifting and lowering equipment used in arboriculture.
  • Understand the requirements for pre'use checks, inspection and record keeping
  • Identify different categories of equipment and their examination intervals
  • Appropriate marking of equipment
  • Identify levels of wear to a range of arboricultural equipment
  • Record findings of thorough examination using appropriate forms
  • Make recommendations for future use and inspection or retirement of equipment

What materials are required?
Steel toe'capped boots and suitable outdoor clothing for practicals. Basic stationery and writing materials.
PLEASE NOTE: All students must bring 2 passport size photographs on the first day of their course.

How will I be assessed?
External assessment will take the form of a written test and a practical assessment.
