If you are looking for a follow'on to the Introduction to K9 Psychology, this is the course for you: for those wishing to expand their knowledge and understanding of the dog ' from owners who would simply like to understand their dog's behaviour in more depth to professionals working in the canine industry. We look at the various stages and natural behaviours of a dog's life and the conflict this can cause with owners. Recognising the stress and reasons for conflict enable us to reduce it by using different learning styles and understanding the dog's language. The course is run one day a month for four months and is delivered through lectures, practicals and discussion forums. An assignment is set at the end of each day's course ' this self'study underpinning further research and learning for the student.
What qualifications will I need?
Students must have completed AC073 Introduction to K9 Psychology.
What will I be learning about?
- Life stages of the dog from conception to adulthood
- Importance of socialisation
- Responsible breeding
- Learning styles and communication
- Recognising stress, aggression and conflict
- Nutrition and the effects of modern diets
- Analysis of behaviour problems and solutions
What is involved?
1 day per month for 4 months ' lectures, discussions, practicals. Assignments set after each day.
