About this course

You must work within the transport industry (bus & coach) and be at least 18 years of age. This level is designed for individuals who may work on their own without direct supervision. You will undertake an initial assessment in Literacy and Numeracy and support will be offered in these areas if needed. Your employer must be willing for your training to take place during working hours.

The aim of the PCV (Driving) NVQ is to contribute to the skills, knowledge and overall performance of individuals who are employed in providing a bus or coach service. This qualification is based on current best practice needed to be a modern bus and coach driver. As well as covering the core functions of a driver this NVQ also focuses on vital skills need to be able to offer a professional service such as communication, working with others and customer service.

What will I learn?
You will develop the skills necessary to improve your skills, knowledge and overall performance within the industry. There are 10 mandatory units that must be completed to achieve the course. Mandatory Core (10 Units) UNIT 1 Maintain effective working relationships with colleagues UNIT 2 Contribute to health and safety in your workplace environment UNIT 3 Provide professional customer care in the bus and coach industry UNIT 4 Prepare for passenger carrying journeys UNIT 5 Help passengers who have special needs UNIT 6 Sharing information on the operation of the bus or coach service UNIT 7 Deal effectively with difficult passengers UNIT 8 Drive passenger carrying vehicles safely and efficiently UNIT 9 Operate the passenger systems and service UNIT 10 Deal with emergencies and incidents during a bus or coach journey Optional Units There are 8 additional units available are to enable Continuous Professional Development and extended training opportunities. They do not form a requirement of the qualification.

How will I be assessed?
You will be observed through real work activities in your workplace and will produce a portfolio of evidence. Dates for assessment are agreed in advance with you, your employer and the assessor. These will occur on average once a month throughout your program.
