You will look at the dynamics of interaction between bodies, fundamental particles, and the nature of waves and energy. We also touch on the worldof quantum mechanics. In year 2, we deal with circular motion, gravitation, radioactivity and electromagnetic effects, including diagnostic methods in medicine. Both years include practical assessment.
Entry Requirements
5 GCSEs at Grade C or above, usually including English and Maths.
Modules Studied:
- Mechanics: motion, forces and energy. This unit has a 30% weighting towards the AS qualification.
- Electrons, Waves and Photons: electricity, waves and Quantum Physics. This unit has a 50% AS weighting.
- AS Practical Physics: three practical tasks are assessed which have a 20% AS weighting. The entire AS qualification counts as half of the full A2 qualification.
- The Newtonian World: Newton's Laws, circular motion and Thermal Physics. This unit has a 15% weighting towards the A2 qualification.
- Fields, Particles and the Frontiers of Physics: Fields, Nuclear and Medical Physics, the structure of the universe. This unit has a 25% A2 weighting.
- A2 Practical Physics: three practical tasks are assessed which have a 10% A2 weighting.
Awarding Body: OCR
Level: L3
Duration: 2 years
