Course information:
A2 Level in Art and Design (Fine Art)


Course summary:
The course is 4.5 hours per week.

Course content:
At A2 candidates are required to build upon the knowledge and skills gained in the AS with greater depth of study. The year consists of 2 units:-

Unit 3 is a personal investigation in which candidates develop work in response to an idea, issue, concept or theme of their choosing.
·

Unit 4 is an externally set assignment. Candidates can choose one question from eight offered on the exam paper.
Throughout the year you can choose to develop your skills in the following areas:- Painting, Drawing, Mixed Media, Sculpture, Photography and Film.
Throughout the course, you will develop your visual language skills within a range of media working from primary and secondary sources.
Exploration and analysis of researched information is essential and sketch book work is emphasised. Historical and contextual aspects will be investigated as a support to the practical work.

Entry requirements:
You should have successfully achieved an AS Level in Art and Design (Fine Art).

Qualifications achieved:
GCE A2 Level Art and Design, awarded by AQA.

Progression opportunities:
The A level in Fine Art will support other A level subjects as an entry qualification into many HE courses.
Those students specifically interested in Fine Art can continue their development through a Foundation programme leading to a degree course of study or a Foundation Degree in Applied Art.

Most full-time students do not have to pay for their course. We may also be able to help you with some of the extra costs associated with college, eg travel, childcare, equipment, books etc. In addition, if you have just left school, you may be eligible for an Educational Maintenance Allowance.
