Access to HE Diploma - Music


Who is this course for?
People who have a real interest and ability in Music but who are not qualified and would like to go on to study music at degree level. Access courses are the recognised route for Adult students to enter Higher Education.

What previous knowledge/experience are required?
You should be an instrumentalist, vocalist or producer with strong skills in your field.

What is the level of the course?
The Access to Music Course is a level 3 course (Higher Education entry Level).

What will the course cover and what can I expect to do by the end of it?
The course will cover Music Theory, Composition, music technology, music business and study skills to help you in preparation for study at university.

What teaching and learning methods will be used on the course?
Project work : students will compose, arrange and perform music. One to one and group tutorials. Lectures and demonstrations.

How will we assess your progress on the course?
Continious assessment throughout course leading to the completion of your portfolio. There will be composition projects, short theory tests, performances assessed through video recording.

What type of qualification will passing this course give me?
Access to Higher Education Diploma.

What extra study/practice do we expect you to do outside the class?
Students must make a commitment to at least 12 hours per week extra study.

What can I do after completing this course?
Attend music courses at university.

Are there any other costs? (e.g. materials, equipment or books I need to buy before or during the course)
A USB key is essential and a booklist will be supplied on enrolment.

Are there any other requirements?
You are required to attend every lesson on time.
