This course is designed with professional qualifications in mind. Our syllabus is closely linked with the requirements of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA), Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA) and Institute of Chartered Accountants England and Wales (ICAEW), giving you the opportunity to achieve maximum exemptions from professional accounting examinations. Without this degree, completing these papers would normally take a minimum of two to three years, assuming you pass first time.

Course programme
WHAT WILL I LEARN?
The first year provides the foundations for all further study. You will study Introductory Financial and Management Accounting, Economics, Mathematical Techniques and Statistics.
The second year builds on these foundations with mandatory Financial and Management Accounting, Corporate Law and Taxation, with options in Finance, Accounting Information Systems and Banking. Research skills are also developed in this year in preparation for a final year project in an accounting related topic of your choice.
The final year requires you to study International Corporate Reporting, Performance Management and Business Strategy, while there are further options including Audit, Corporate Governance, Financial Management and International Taxation.
Your course will be based on a series of weekly lectures, small group seminars and workshops. Some classes may be held in IT suites where students have individual PCs and work using appropriate software packages, such as SAGE and SAP. In addition, you will be assigned a personal tutor who will review and discuss your progress with you and be available for advice.
HOW WILL I BE ASSESSED?
Assessment on your course will be by a mixture of coursework assignments and formal examinations which could vary depending upon the module
An estimated percentage breakdown of how your final grade is assessed is as follows: formal examinations 70%; coursework, tests, essays 20%; group work 5%; presentations and posters 5%.
In a typical week you will have up to 14 contact hours of teaching and this will break down as:
Personal tutorial/small group teaching: 2 hours of tutorials (or later, project supervision) each week
Medium group teaching: 6 hours of practical classes, workshops or seminars each week
Large group teaching: 6 hours of lectures each week
Personal study: 22–24 hours studying and revising in your own time each week, including some guided study using handouts, online activities, etc.
Accreditation: Additional fees may apply.

Membership: European Foundation for Management Development (EFMD)
Exemption: Accreditations, partnerships, exemptions and memberships shall be renewed in accordance with the relevant bodies’ standard review process and subject to the University maintaining the same high standards of course delivery.
