Advanced Apprenticeship AAT Diploma in Accounting - Level 3 Overview

During the course you will study:

  • Preparing final accounts for partnerships and sole traders
  • Cash management
  • Providing cost and revenue information
  • Preparing and completing VAT returns
  • Spreadsheets
Entry requirements

You will need to have already achieved AAT level 2, either the NVQ 2 or the level 2 certificate.

You should already be employed in an accountancy environment.

Start dates and fees

If you are between the age of 16 and 18 the apprenticeship is free of charge. If you are 19 and above your employer must pay a one off fee.

During your apprenticeship your employer is obliged to pay you a wage at the minimum rate for an apprentice.

On top of the course fees, you will also be required to join the AAT professional body, which may incur a charge.

How long is the course?

Depending on the individual, the course normally lasts one year to eighteen months.

How will I be assessed?

You will be assessed by project and computer based formal tests.

Underpinning knowledge will also be delivered on day release.

Success rates

The success rate for advanced apprenticeships in accounting is 80%.

What does the course lead to?

The following job roles: accounts assistant, assistant management accountant, semi-senior in accounting practive or finance assistant.

What will I study?

As part of your advanced apprenticeship you will cover the following: Level 3 Diploma in Accounting and Level 2 functional skills in English and maths.

What can I go on to study?

A higher apprenticeship or you can study a foundation degree.
