The Advanced Diploma in Hair and Beauty is designed for you if you
have an interest in subjects such as hand care and nails, skin care and make- up. The Diploma gives you a comprehensive understanding of the industry through the study of history, business and the science of hair and beauty.

In addition to ten days relevant work experience and a project
undertaken in Year 2, you will study the following topics:

· Scientific principles for beauty therapy
· Workplace practices within the beauty therapy industry
· Essential skills - manicures, pedicures, waxing, make-up and
eye treatments
· Dermatology and microbiology
· Facial therapy â€" manual and electrotherapy
· Explore complementary therapies
· Nail technology â€" artificial nail systems and nail art
· Indian head massage
· Business location and design
· Event management and enterprise
· Product research, design and development
· Exploring business management
· Exploring media and image
· Exploring the world of spas
· Business planning and finance
· Cosmetic science.

The course will develop your personal learning, thinking skills and ability to work as part of a team. In addition to this you will also develop your analytical, creative, problem-solving and interpersonal skills.

During the course you will have the opportunity to achieve additional
qualifications in English, Maths and ICT as well as industry recognised qualifications.

How will I be assessed?
You will be assessed continuously during the course through a range of assignments, investigations, practical assessments and external exams.

Progression
On successful completion you may:

Progress to a degree level course in the field of hair and beauty.
This could include the Foundation Degree in Salon Management or similar degree course.

Or

Start an exciting career in the hair and beauty industry as an Assistant Salon Manager or Beauty Therapist. This course is equivalent to 3.5 A Levels and allows entry to study at degree level.
