Introduction
A well-managed appraisal system has many benefits for both the organisation and the individuals being appraised. It can identify specific training needs as they relate to the organisation objectives, it can motivate employees and, ultimately, it can have a positive impact on the bottom line. This course aims to give managers a structure and the skills to carry out a successful appraisal interview

Preparation

• Understanding the appraisal form
• Understanding the desired result and the appraisal objective
• Analysing standards versus achievements
• Identifying the potential of the individual
• Working out realistic and measurable objectives
• Identify the work needed to prepare the individual for the future
• The Interview
• Creating the right environment
• The importance of positive two-way communication
• Reviewing performance versus objectives
• Keeping an open mind and listening to the appraisee
• Identification of short and long term goals to enhance performance
• The importance of review dates
• Agreement of action and training plans

Follow-up

• The importance of regular reviews with the individual to follow through with goals and objectives agreed at the interview

Practical Exercise

• Preparing and delivering the appraisal. (Role play)

Suitability

This course is designed for all managers / supervisors who appraise their staff as part of their responsibilities.
There will be a high level of group participation including practical work and group discussions.

Assessment

No formal assessment.
Candidates who complete the programme will receive a City College Coventry Certificate of completion.
