Arabic Beginners Level 2

Your Course
This course is suitable for those who have already studied Arabic for 1 term. The course is based on a communicative approach and aims to develop the skills of listening, speaking, reading and writing in the foreign language. It aims to enable students to understand and use Arabic effectively for purposes of practical communication, to develop some understanding of grammar and to offer insights into the culture of Arabic speaking countries.
During the course students will take a short internal assessment in speaking Arabic at Beginners' level. This will help prepare them for the OCR Asset Language Test that will be taken at the end of the Beginners' year.
This course feeds into Beginners Level 3 (Summer Term 2010).
The course book is: 'Mastering Arabic' by Jane Wightwick & Mahmoud Gaafar.ISBN 0-333-49037-1, chapters 9-13.
Learning Outcomes
By the end of the course you will have been given the opportunity to practise the following:
· Describing places
· Discussing countries and nationalities
· Counting things
· Naming shapes and colours
· Discussing what happened yesterday
The main grammar areas are:
· Nominative, accusative and genitive cases
· Uses of J for possession, Arabic roots, plural patterns 1 and 2, 3 and 4
· Asking questions about the past
· How to join sentences together
· Personal pronouns
Your Tutor
Hudo Tello-Kuwaider is a native speaker of Arabic language from Damascus, Syria where she obtained a BA degree in English Literature. She taught English as a Foreign Language at an International school in Damascus for one year and in 1992 she began teaching Arabic and Islamic studies at the Syrian Community School in London. She has recently obtained the PTLLS Award [Preparing to Teach in the Lifelong Sector] from Hills Road Sixth Form Centre. She is currently working for the OCR and CIE as an item writer, moderator and editor.

Tuition fees: £95
Method of payment: Fees for short courses (10 weeks or less) to be paid in full at enrolment and for long courses (12 weeks or more) fees of 50% can be paid at enrolment plus 50% as a cheque. Course places cannot be reserved without receipt of both payments.
Half term:
Please note that there are no classes during half term Monday 15th - Friday 19th February 2010 unless otherwise stated.
