Art and Design (Fine Art) - BTEC National Diploma level 3(2010/2011)
Study Method:
The qualification is made up of 5 core units that provide students with basic fine art knowledge, plus 13 specialist units that develop specific skills in painting, drawing, sculpture, print and new technologies. All work is delivered in the form of projects that set students particular themes of creative problems for their work. Within each project there is scope for students to produce work that reflects their own unique interests and creativity.
Duration :Two year, full time.
Who the Course is For:
The BTEC National Diploma in Art and Design (Fine Art) is an ideal course for those students whose main interest is in creating images and objects to embark on the exciting and challenging study of this subject. Designed to develop both practical and creative skills, enthusiastic and committed students will find this course an ideal basis from which to progress on to higher education or employment.
Assessment:
Work is assessed through the course work and a final major project. Students also follow an integrated program of key skills study which develops written and verbal skills.

There are many opportunities available to students with creativity, practical skills and innovative ideas. The course provides students with the necessary skills and creative knowledge required to progress into employment or higher education at either HND or Degree level.

Content:
All students follow an integrated program of 18 units of study that develop the skills and underpinning knowledge to create exciting and challenging art work. During the first year of study there is a focus on the practical skills in drawing, painting, print, sculpture and digital imaging and on developing students historical and contextual understanding of the subject as a whole. During the second year students begin to develop their portfolios of art work in a manner that reflects their individual interests and skills, which combined with a program of professional development allows them to progress to higher education or employment. The final part of the qualification is the students self directed Final Major Project that leads to the end of course exhibition.
