Course Aims This course comprises three areas of study. The main area is in practical and theoretical aspects of floral design. The second area is business management, providing the skills necessary to run a business, and the third is plant material and management.
Special Features
As a mature student I was nervous about leaving my full-time job and home to come away to college, but as soon as I visited Writtle for an open day I knew this was the place where I wanted to study for my Foundation degree in Professional Floristry.
There was a friendly, relaxed and welcoming atmosphere and I could see that the facilities available for floristry students were second to none, which include a photography room where you can take pictures of your designs for your portfolio, and a floristry training shop which stocks new trendy floral accessories, which are essential for any florist's box.
The FdSc Professional Floristry course shows you all the areas involved in the industry, from growing flowers and designing with them, to running a business. This has helped me decide what area of the industry I would like to go into after my course. At the moment I am hoping to take a year long industrial placement with a cut flower grower in The Netherlands before returning to Writtle College to top up my Foundation degree to a BSc Honours in Horticulture.
I have been given so many amazing opportunities since being at Writtle College, including being part of their medal winning team at The Chelsea Flower Show, and gaining a work experience placement at a top London florist, where I have continued to work throughout my course. The Floristry tutors have been an amazing inspiration to me throughout my course and are always encouraging when it comes to entering local and national competitions.
All in all I am thoroughly enjoying being a student at Writtle College and will have so many amazing experiences and memories to take away with me at the end of my course as well as a fantastic qualification.
