About this course
Applicants must be at least 16 years old with 5 GCSEs at C or above, as well as a portfolio of artwork, which demonstrates the appropriate imagination and industry required to successfully complete this course.

Is this course for you
This course also study historical and contemporary arts and artists, professional practice, design methods and community art. In the second year you will be able to choose a pathway which most suits your artistic talents, and specialise in one or more of these subject disciplines.
What will you study
You will experience an extended range of Art and Design craft disciplines, developing and deepening your creative and technical skills through a range of project briefs. In the first year you will experience a range of creative opportunities in a variety of media. In the second year you will select a creative pathway, which allows you to explore into a particular art or craft form which most suits you.
How will you be assessed
You will be continually assessed at regular intervals throughout the course.
What can you do after course
At the end of this course you may apply directly to a University course specialising in the area which interests you most. Alternatively you may decide that you wish to prepare more fully before making your Higher Education choice and choose the one year Foundation Diploma.
Additional information
During the course you will have many opportunities to visit famous art galleries and museums, major exhibitions and craft workshops. Visiting professional artist and designers will also give talks and seminars. You will also have the opportunity to go on an extended, possibly overseas, visit to study art and culture in a different social context. Functional skills are also part of the course. You may be required to buy some art equipment or materials during the course.
