Over 5 million people in the UK are currently receiving treatment for asthma. The National Review of Asthma Deaths (NRAD) published by The Royal College of Physicians in 2014 found that 46% of the deaths investigated in the inquiry could have been avoided if the available best practice guidelines had been followed. Experts and patient charities have called for an end to the complacency that surrounds asthma care whilst recognising that patients themselves have a part to play inactively taking part in managing their condition.

This course is designed to give healthcare professionals new to asthma care an understanding of the prevalence and impact of asthma. Delegates will look at the anatomy and physiology of the respiratory tract, the pathophysiology and mechanism of asthma, current therapies both pharmacological and non-pharmacological. It will focus on the brilliant basics of asthma care, the importance of supported self-management and the organisation and provision of care. The course will be interactive and will include practical workshops and group discussion. Delegates will develop an understanding of the key components of asthma care which will provide a foundation for future learning and development in this exciting area where they can make a difference to the outcomes for their patients with asthma.

All Annie Barr Associates clinical courses are led by trainers who are qualified healthcare professionals with a wealth of clinical and teaching experience. Non-clinical courses are delivered by suitably qualified and experienced professionals who are experts on the subject matter.

Please note: This is a full day course. Delegates are asked to arrive at the venue for registration at 9.30am. The training will take place from 10.00am - 4.00pm.
