Award and Certificate in the Internal Quality Assurance of Assessment Processes and Practice - Level 4 Overview

The Award in Quality Assurance is for practitioners who conduct internal quality assurance of the assessment process from within a centre or organisation, by sample planning, monitoring and advising on the practice of assessment.

The Certificate of Internal Quality Assurance is for practitioners who lead the internal quality assurance within a centre or organisation and have a responsibility for managing the quality of the assessment process, practice and performance of the assessor. They may also develop systems and lead on visits from outside agencies such as awarding organisations.

Entry requirements

Individuals will undertake an initial assessment and diagnostic assessment for maths and English prior to enrolment.

Cost: £1,500-£1,800.

How will I be assessed?

Individuals are required to produce a portfolio of evidence, which will contain a variety of assessments covering the criteria stipulated by the awarding body to cover the Level 4 Award/Certificate in Internal Quality Assurance.

Assessments may include:

  • Practical IQA observations
  • Written essays
  • Professional discussions
  • Standardisation meeting minutes
  • Evaluation of policies and procedures
  • Plan and lead external quality assurance visits.

Assessment will be planned with an assessor prior to the assessment taking place.

What does the course lead to?

Upon completion of the course you will be equipped with a nationally recognised qualification that is transferable across a variety of sectors.

A further unit can be added to enable you to become a Lead Internal Quality Assurer.

Award in Internal Quality Assurance of assessment Processes and Practice

  • Understanding the principles and practices of internal quality assurance. This unit is a knowledge based unit on the principles and practices of internal assuring the quality of assessment
  • Internally assure the quality of assessment
  • Carry out internal quality assurance throughout the assessment process

Certificate in Leading the internal Quality Assurance of Assessment Processes and practice

  • Plan, allocate and monitor work in own area of responsibility
  • Lead the quality assurance process within your area
