One of the phenomena of the 21st century has been that of globalisation. This course equips students with the knowledge and expertise to manage within this global framework. As globalisation increases, more organisations have to work beyond their regional boundaries, compete in diverse global environments and find that their traditional domestic markets are open to global challenges. These organisations need experts who can work across multicultural barriers, develop effective international strategies and source products internationally. This course will train students in these business key areas.

 

The course will provide an interdisciplinary approach to global citizenship and will help students develop their own understanding of complex notions in the international business environment. Additionally, the course will help students develop Digital Literacy skills through the use of applications software employed by contemporary organisations. The development of student knowledge and understanding of a range of international business and management practices and the ability to apply them effectively in an entrepreneurial and innovative manner will also be emphasised, as it is recognised that entrepreneurship is a key force for successful economic growth.

The module is sectioned into two parts. The first part of the module aims to provide students with a practical understanding of the digital business, the need for digital transformation to support innovation and to continue to have a competitive advantage in the marketplace. The various digital business models are explored along with the importance of digital capability. The second part of the module introduces students to the information systems that support todays digital business. A range of information systems are examined including those that support the operations of the digital business, through to its sales and marketing functions. The importance big data and business intelligence are introduced before examining how today’s digital business can apply business intelligence to develop new products and services long with improvements in efficiency and its business processes.

This module will explore operations and supply chain management, as well as the fundamentals of project management. The module aims at giving students the skills required to analyse contemporary issues facing business operations and supply chain. It also exposes students to the understanding of how businesses mitigate these issues to deliver goods and services of the quality and of the right quantity in order to satisfy customers’ need while adopting lean business approaches. The module also equips students with the skills of team working and communication in a project environment. Students will be able to define, plan and control projects through their life cycle, while balancing competing performance objectives and managing competing stakeholder requirements. Detailed study of management tools such as critical path analysis and PERT will be undertaken.

This module represents an opportunity for students to apply and develop, through work experience, the skills and knowledge they have gained on their course. This module involves a year long placement in a business related area, supported by a workplace mentor and UWBS Employability and Placement Unit (EPU). The year-long placement provides students with the opportunity to gain experience of graduate level work. In this way students can gain a second, world-recognised qualification with no extra work. Employers are very keen to employ graduates who have already had work experience as part of their course and this contributes to a student’s unique selling point.

This module develops the students understanding of the complex debate about the scale, nature, causes, consequences, and inevitability of globalisation. While business rhetoric treats globalisation as a fact of life, serious discussion is required to understand complex controversies over what is happening in international business. How these are understood will condition our analysis of international business in the decade to come. In doing so, the module also aims to provide students with basic understanding of the rationale behind the decisions of multinational enterprises (MNEs) in a global business environment. Students will also critically evaluate how globalisation has been shaping and changing the international business context for MNEs and how MNEs having impact on sustainable global world at both national level on host countries and international level.

This module will examine the role of social media, search engine and freelance marketing in targeting and communications. The module will also examine the strategic and practical application of social media and freelance platforms, with particular focus on competitor analysis. Students will gain exposure to digital marketing tools, and develop capabilities in Search Engine Optimisation (SEO), Keyword Research, Search Engine Marketing (SEM) and Content Marketing.
