This 3-year BA (Hons) Opera Performance Studies is run in collaboration with Rose Bruford College. It is designed to afford you a period of intensive practical study of the essential skills required to build a successful career in Opera. The programme aims to develop you as all-round performers.
A central, intensive two-year practice period is flanked by academic study on-line and intensive practice weekends. During the intensive practical phase of the course, students study three days per week based at Associated Studios.

About this course

The academic content of the course is delivered online and you are required to deliver regular assessed projects. The academic study is designed to provide a theoretical underpinning that supports your practice and covers aspects of opera as a performance art – analyzing directing styles, composition, researching libretti, understanding the social history of opera, Lieder and much more.

One of the great advantages of this course is that you will only need to find two years of living expenses, and will graduate having been put through your paces on a rigorous vocational programme, backed up by intensive academic learning crucial to your understanding of your craft in theory and practice.

As most applicants will be 18-25, great care will be taken to build your voices carefully and progressively with age and voice appropriate repertoire and in consultation with established singing teachers. The progressive accumulation of the practical component considers the needs of young voices. Apart from studying appropriate Opera scenes and arias, you will also study other recital repertoire including Lieder and Chansons.

Throughout the course you will work with top industry practitioners including repetiteurs, conductors, performers, language specialists, directors, acting coaches, vocal coaches and movement coaches.

Singers who have already had some years of classical voice training who have decided that they want to pursue a career in opera. Minimum age is 18, with no upper age limit.

Entry is by audition only with two contrasting arias or songs. No formal academic qualifications are required for this BA.

At the successful completion of the course you will be awarded a BA (Hons) in Opera Performance Studies.
