This short course is designed to give you a taste of possibilities but will enable you to complete a number of small mats or baskets demonstrating these two techniques. These could be pieces in their own right or samples for future experiments/inspiration/projects etc. You will use the traditional British basketry materials rush and willow to explore basketry techniques used in further afield parts of the world.

- Identify a variety of materials that can be used for these two techniques
- Those with previous experience will be stretched in new ways.
Most materials will be provided and the college has enough tools for you to use in class.
A notebook and a camera would be useful to make notes and record your work in progress.

Course programme
In this short course you will be introduced to the windmill knot and Burkina Faso techniques using willow and rush and you will be encouraged to transfer the skills learned to other materials once they have been mastered.
You will be taught by demonstrations, individual guidance, handouts, images, looking at samples and discussing your own and others' work.¿¿ No homework will be set but it would be very worthwhile if some repetition were done between sessions in order to consolidate and you will be encouraged to try out your own experiments and explorations.Additional information
