The BCS Level 3 Certificate in Using IT (ECDL Advanced) course is designed to serve as recognition of the complex skills and knowledge required for attainment at Level 3 and allows users to produce professional-looking and complex documents and outputs. There are two methods of study. The class based course will be delivered as a 4 hour taught class over 55 weeks with workshop provision.

Course summary:
The BCS Level 3 Certificate in Using IT (ECDL Advanced) course is designed to serve as recognition of the complex skills and knowledge required for attainment at Level 3 and allows users to produce professional-looking and complex documents and outputs.
There are two methods of study. The class based course will be delivered as a 4 hour taught class over 55 weeks with workshop provision available for candidates who require additional support. The Open Learning based course will be delivered through a number of fully staffed workshops.
Course content:
The BCS Level 3 Certificate in Using IT (ECDL Advanced) comprises of 5 Units. The modules are as follows:

Advanced Spreadsheets
Advanced Database
Advanced Presentation
Improving Productivity Using IT
Course structure:
The BCS Level 3 Certificate in Using IT (ECDL Advanced) course is designed to serve as recognition of the complex skills and knowledge required for attainment at Level 3 and allows users to produce professional-looking and complex documents and outputs.
ECDL Advanced will allow you to demonstrate your higher level computer skills, you can show employers that you are confident, competent and efficient in a range of applications.
Assessment procedure:
In order to obtain the BCS Level 3 Certificate in Using IT (ECDL Advanced) candidates must successfully complete 5 Advanced modules. Evidence of competence in these modules is assessed by the completion of examinations as indicated in the Marking Schedule.
On each visit to the Centre, you will need to record your progress in your Record of Progress booklet and hand this in to your tutor at the end of each session. This booklet will be used as a two-way feedback between yourself and the tutors. Workshop provision will be staffed at all times and all students are encouraged to attend.
Free study and financial support:
Many part-time students at South Tyneside College do not have to pay for their course. We may also be able to help you with some of the extra costs associated with college, eg travel, childcare, equipment, books etc. In addition, depending on the course and the number of hours a week you study, you may be eligible for an Adult Learners†Grant. Please ask us about free study and financial support when you apply.
