The Breaking Through Top Talent programme is designed to help deliver a diverse senior leadership community – one that enables delivery of a responsive service for a culturally rich nation. And it does this by encouraging, supporting and guiding members of staff from Black and Minority Ethnic backgrounds to realise their potential for everyone’s benefit.
The programme aims to attract talented BME (Black and Minoriy Ethnic backgrounds) individuals at Band 8 (or clinical equivalent) and above and prepare them to perform at very senior levels in the NHS; in addition, having more BME people on executive boards will bring better knowledge and appreciation of the needs of the diverse population the NHS serves. The programme aims to identify, develop and place talented managers into director level job opportunities. This exciting and innovative programme will help inspire and motivate staff in the service and ensure the NHS harnesses the talents of staff from all disciplines and backgrounds.
We’re looking to find the leaders of the future, and to further build on the success of this programme. And we need your help. Whether you’re eligible yourself, know someone who might be, supporting people in your team,
nominating new roles for participants in your organisation, or helping with assessment, your input is critical to finding the talent that’s fundamental to the future success of the NHS.
Perhaps just as important as supporting and developing BME staff is ensuring we have a workforce that reflects the population at all levels therefore enabling us to get a clearer picture into the populations we serve and in turn be
more responsive to their needs and deliver better patient care. So you’ll not only be helping to shape the future of the NHS, but positively impacting on people’s lives for years to come.
“The programme has been vital in my career transition – through direct learning and also through the support of the professionals I’ve networked with. The richness of diversity was inspiring and educational – I’ve been able to work with and learn from a wide variety of colleagues, from clinical & non-clinical backgrounds, Mental Health, PCT, Acute Trusts and education, to name just a few.”
Paul Johnston, Recruitment and Retention Manager Northwick and Waverney Mental Health Partnership.
