Do you have questions about sentence structure and punctuation in your essays for college or university or in emails at work? Does the thought of grammar put you off the idea of teaching English as a foreign language? Are you a primary school teacher expected to your pupils grammar children when no one ever taught you? Have you had trouble learning a foreign language because you don’t understand the grammar of your own? If so, this course is for you: the aim of this course is help you master the basics of English grammar and become confident in explaining grammar and analysing the grammar of your own writing.

You are strongly advised to buy a grammar reference book before the course beings. The tutor will recommend The Complete Guide to Grammar by Martin Manser and Rosalind Fergusson.

Course programme
We will cover world classes (nouns, determiners, adjectives, pronouns, verbs, adverbs, prepositions and conjunctions), clause structure (subjects, objects, complements and adverbials), sentence structure (simple, compound and complex sentences) and punctuation.
The tutor will present and explain grammar, encourage questions from students during class discussion and prepare activities for you to do in pairs and small groups. You should be prepared to do spend about an hour each week between sessions on homework.Additional information
