Program

BS 25999-2:2007 is the new specification for implementing, establishing, and improving a business continuity management system (BCMS) within an organisation.

The requirements in the standard are generic and are intended to be applicable to all organisations (or parts there of), regardless of type, size and nature of business. The extent of application of these requirements depends on the organisation's operating environment and complexity. The benefits of BS 25999, particularly when combined with independent certification, are widespread:
  • Framework
Provides a common consistent framework, based on international best practice, to manage business continuity.
  • Resilience
Proactively improves your resilience when faced with the disruption of your ability to achieve key objectives
  • Reputation
Helps protect and enhance your reputation and brand.
  • Competitive advantage
Opens new markets and helps you win new business.
  • Win more contracts more cost effectively
Provides a marketing edge and using certification can help reduce the cost of expensive tenders.
  • Business improvement
Certifcation requires a clear understanding of your entire organization which can identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Continuous improvement
The certifcation process involves regular audits which ensure that your management system is up to date.
  • Compliance
Demonstrates that applicable laws and regulations are being observed.
  • Cost Savings
Creates opportunities to reduce the cost of BCM audits and may reduce insurance premiums.
  • Delivery
Provides a rehearsed method of restoring your ability to supply critical products and services to an agreed level and timeframe following a disruption
  • Management
Delivers a proven capability for managing a disruption.
It is not the intent of this British standard to imply uniformity in the structure of a BCMS. The standard is intended to be used by an organisation to design a BCMS to be appropriate to its needs and that meets its stakeholders requirements.

BS 25999-2 can be used by internal and external parties. Including certification bodies, to assess an organisation's ability to meet its own business continuity needs, as well as any customer, legal or regulatory needs.
