Course description
This course is primarily designed for HND graduates who want to top up their current qualifications to honours degree level. It is run in Sri Lanka, UAE, Qatar, Oman, Bahrain and Saudi Arabia.
During the course you use your existing construction experience to prepare for a career in the built environment. You gain core knowledge and skills relevant to construction engineering and management, as well as essential employability skills needed by employers.
You gain knowledge and practical skills in • structural engineering design • geotechnics and substructures • environmental and sustainable construction • management of construction projects • professional report writing • research. This helps prepare you for work in the modern international business arena of construction engineering.
Key areas of study include
• the various elements and structural behaviour of building forms
• calculations and solutions for simple foundation design over a range of soil types
• current thinking on the environmental impact of the built environment on local and global communities and associated sustainability issues
• strategies in managing resources to deliver successful projects.
You then go on to use what you have learnt to complete a research project in the form of a dissertation.
The course also enhances your career prospects by developing your management knowledge and employability skills in • problem solving • report writing • communication • group work • IT.

Normally you need
• a HND or equivalent qualification in a related subject
• evidence of related work-based experience
If English is not your first language you typically need an IELTS score of 6.0 with a minimum of 5.5 in all skills or equivalent.
