Course Duration

The programme can be taken either in a part-time mode by the students in the UK, or in a full-time mode by overseas students. The full time BSc is of three full calendar year’s duration with enrolment on the programme possible in September, January, April or July. For the part-time BSc there is a maximum duration of Five years.

Course Description

This degree programme seeks to develop IT skills and their application to business organisations. It's a practically based degree covering both technical and theoretical issues.

Structure and syllabuses

Year 1:

You will study modules designed to provide a foundation in business areas and an awareness of the major themes of Information Technology. By the end of this year you will have a broad understanding of fundamental concepts and principles of marketing, the ways in which finance is managed within a business organisation and the internal nature of organisations from both a theoretical and practical viewpoint. You will learn the techniques for the effective use of information in Business decision making. You will develop the preliminary skills necessary to install and manage networks, and also to evaluate the capacity of an information system to satisfy the needs of the user.

Year 2:

In year two, you will further develop the major themes of Business and IT. By the end of this year you will carry out a research project into a specified area of business. You will be able to evaluate and select strategies appropriate to business organisations, investigate the operation of organisations in relation to the local, national and global environment and demonstrate the essential elements of common law. You will be encouraged to design and evaluate a prototype multimedia system and also construct and manage an effective e-business website interface. You will have an understanding of how EU membership impacts on the UK and organisations located in the UK, and how an organisation's commercial activities will impact on the environment.

Year 3


In year three, you will develop the it skills and their application to business organizations. it's practically based degree covering both technical and theoretical issues. The following is an indication of current programme content. However, the rapidly changing nature of the subject area means that both the courses offered, and individual course content, are likely to change in future years.

Outcome

Career opportunities exist in mainstream Business & computing areas such as business and IT consultancy and software development, project development, internet and e-commerce applications, and business and IT support. Graduates can expect to work as independent consultants or in teams with other computer professionals to build and support modern Computing systems.

Assessment

Year one and two all modules are mainly assessed by one or multiple assignment(s). All the courses listed are compulsory and may subject to change. The changes will be notified to the students before time.

All 15-credit courses are all assessed by one examination (50%) and one coursework assignment (50%). For the project, students are required to design and implement software, to demonstrate the software and to submit a project dissertation. A relevant literature study must be carried out and the findings written up in the dissertation. The examinations and assignments are set by the University of Greenwich and take place twice per year.
