Course programme
This course is the first stepping stone to a career as it gives you an understanding of business and administration and at the same time allows you to improve your maths, English and ICT skills.
You will have the opportunity to learn basic theory and develop a wide range of practical office skills which are valued by employers ands also support you when undertaking further study.
The course includes:
- investigating rights and responsibilities at work,
- managing your health at work,
- working in business and administration,
- communicating electronically,
- making and receiving calls,
- welcoming visitors,
- using office equipment in a business environment,
- creating business documents,
- supporting business meetings,
- a business administration group project,
- ideas for small business.
You will also complete the award/certificate in personal and social development. This is assessed by coursework and develops the skills employers are looking for in problem solving and comminication. English, maths and ICT are a compulsory part of the course and are externally tested through functional skills or alternative qualifications.
You will complete a level 1 Award in Text Production which involves using word processing and making amendments to business documents. This qualification is highly valued by employers and will also support you in your next level of study. It is externally assessed.

Entry Requirements
- A minimum of four GCSEs grade E or above, including English language, and maths at grade F or above, or
- an entry level 3 qualification, entry level 3 English and maths at entry level 2.
You will need to demonstrate your ability to communicate successfully through a piece of free writing.
