BTECS ARE CHANGING!
From September 2010 the College will be offering the BTEC Extended Certificate (2 GCSE equivalent). M


The main purpose of this course is to develop your ability to appreciate the visual world and to respond in a personal and creative way. You will be encouraged to express your ideas and feelings through the controlled use of a broad range of materials and techniques, and will gain knowledge of the work of artists across a range of cultures and periods in history. You will produce work for two core units: 2-D & 3-D visual communication, and contextual references in Art & Design. For the third unit you have the opportunity to specialise in one of the following areas: textiles, graphic design, photography, 3-D design or visual arts.

ENTRY RECOMMENDATIONS:
Available to Access course students, who typically will have either four GCSE subjects at grade D or above, or a BTEC Foundation Certificate in a related subject.
ASSESSMENT:
All units are internally assessed and externally moderated. The final Certificate is equivalent
to two GCSEs.
PROGRESSION:
The course provides a good basic grounding in some of the skills and techniques required for further study or employment in art-related fields Progression could be to any of the Art A levels offered by the College which include Textiles, Photography, Design and Art.
