About this course
A GNVQ Foundation, BTEC Introductory Diploma in Art, Design & Media or GCSE's in Art, English and Maths are preferred, however each candidate's suitability for the course will be considered based upon their interest and ability in Art & Design. We will interview all applicants and you will be asked to bring a portfolio of recent art & design work with you. You will be set a standard drawing project which is seen at interview.

Course summary:
The BTEC First Diploma in Art & Design is a one year course specifically aimed at students with an interest in art and design. It is an alternative to resits and will allow you to progress to a higher level qualification as it is the equivalent of four GCSE's.
Course content:
You will undertake projects which cover:-
visual studies
drawing
painting
graphics
fashion
three dimensional design
You will also be given the opportunity to develop your numeracy, communication and I.T. skills.
Assessment procedure:
There are no tests on this programme. Coursework will form the basis of your assessment.
Entry requirements:
A GNVQ Foundation, BTEC Introductory Diploma in Art, Design & Media or GCSE's in Art, English and Maths are preferred, however each candidate's suitability for the course will be considered based upon their interest and ability in Art & Design. BTEC First Diploma in Art & Design. There will be an opportunity for Key Skills and Wider Key Skills.
Progression opportunities:
The majority of successful students from this course progress to the BTEC National Diploma in Design or the BTEC National Diploma in Media (Publishing) course.
