How will I Learn?
The majority of the work is completed using computer-based assignments, although other methods may be used. During the course, guest speakers from local firms are invited to discuss computer use and application in industry.

As IT learners you will be allocated a storage area on the College network, it is however strongly advised that you have a USB flash drive for maximum flexibility.

How will I be Assessed?
There are no formal exams. The programme is assessed on assignments, plus portfolio work in each unit. Most of this work will be done on computers, but there is no need to have a computer at home as there are plenty of opportunities to complete work at College.

All assignments and portfolio work must be passed and the work is given a grade of either Pass, Merit or Distinction. In the second year there will also be an IT project which will be a work-based simulation based on the stream you are taking.

What Enrichments are Available?
There are many College wide enrichment opportunities which may vary dependent on uptake. There are computer specific enrichment opportunities, covering topics such as computer maintenance, web design, digital graphics etc... plus many other options including many sporting and other activities to enhance your experience of College life.

Are there any Trips or Visits?
We are currently introducing a range of internal and external visits to give a greater understanding of the application of IT in the real world. There may be opportunities to visit local companies to witness how technology is being applied.

Is there any Work Experience?
Work experience tends to be carried out 'in-house" and centres around utilising learners expertise to improve the learning environment. Currently the second year learners are providing the IT support for the Art & Design Computer Suite.

What can I Progress to?
Learners may progress to a Foundation Degree or Degree. This would typically be in a computer-related discipline, although there are many other options available. More than 80% of learners are currently progressing to Higher Education.

Other Learner's Experiences;
The majority of our learners go on to study on higher level courses at university. Those that have chosen to progress straight into employment have found work as Computer Technicians, IT Assistants, Help Desk Assistants, etc...
