BTECS ARE CHANGING!
From September 2010 the College will be offering the BTEC Subsidiary Diploma (1 A level equivalent), BTEC Diploma (2 A level equivalent) and BTEC Extended Diploma (3 A level equivalent).
The College offers three BTEC National courses; the Award, Certificate, and Diploma, which are equivalent to one, two, and three A levels respectively. You can choose between these three courses according to the degree of specialisation, in business, you wish to follow.
All the courses contain a strong practical, work related approach, with no external examinations. These practical skills, emphasised, ensure you leave the course fully prepared for either Higher Education or employment.
The Award (one A level)
This qualification will be taken alongside other level 3 subjects and is a two-year course. You follow the six core units in business, covering Introduction to business, Business and Management, Creative product promotion, Presenting business information, Business enterprise and Business online.
The Certificate (two A levels)
This qualification will normally be taken with one or twp other subjects at level 2 or 3. You follow the six core units listed above, together with six specialist units from areas such as accounting, market research and law. The full qualification will take two years to complete although it is designed to ensure that students will cover the units to an obtain an Award at the end of year one.
The Diploma (three A levels)
This qualification is equivalent to three A levels, and is a full-time course in its own right, although you may wish to study additional courses alongside it. You follow the six core units listed above, together with twelve specialist units from areas such as accounting, market research, and law. The full qualification will take two years to complete, although it is designed to ensure you will cover the units to obtain an Award at the end of year one.
Grade C in English and Maths, or Merit in BTEC First qualifications.
All units are internally assessed using practical projects and assignments. Grades of Pass, Merit or Distinction are awarded which are equivalent to A level grades for university entrance.
Many organisations welcome the BTEC qualification as entry for their management training programmes or you will be able to progress to a range of Higher Education courses, including BTEC Higher National courses, Foundation degrees, and degrees
in business related courses.
