Course Content:
The course is made up of 8 core and 4 specialist units. The core units are as follows. Developing Effective Communication; Equality, Diversity and Rights; Health, Safety and Security in Health and Social Care; Development through the Life Stages; Fundamentals of Anatomy and Physiology for Health and Social Care; Personal and Professional Development in Health and Social Care; Sociology perspectives for Health and Social Care; Psychological perspectives for Health and Social Care. The specialist units will allow you to study particular areas in depth. The range of available units will be discussed at interview.

This is a practical work related course, where you learn by completing vocationally related activities and assignments. All students will be required to have a Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) check.All students are required to attend a placement as part of the course. This must be for a minimum of 100 hours.

Progression:
BTEC National Certificates are valued by employers, universities and HE colleges. Students can go into careers such as social work, residential care management, housing and the probation service. If you want to get a job straight away, you could work in: registered care homes; housing; community work and the voluntary sector; hospitals and Primary Care Trusts. If you decide to continue in education, you could study a degree or BTEC Higher Diploma in Health and Social Care.
