About this course

This course is aimed at mature students who are enthusiastic about learning and want to prepare for study at university. It would suit students who may have missed out at school, but wish to renew their studies. To begin this course you will need to pass a Literacy and Numeracy test followed by an interview with the course tutor to make sure that the course suits your aspirations.

ACCESS TO RADIOGRAPHY

Location: Hall Green Campus
Times: Day FT
Duration: 1 year

What will I study?
The course is delivered through a combination of practical experiments and lectures.

You will study 2 specialist modules:
Biology
Physics

Core units:
Maths/Numeracy
English/Study Skills
Computing

You will accumulate credits at level 2 (GCSE equivalent) or level 3 (A level equivalent). You will need to have achieved 36 credits at level 3 for university entrance, although many universities will ask for more than this minimum. Students are expected to spend 10-20 hours per week in independent study. You will receive lectures from staff at Birmingham City University.

There is a work placement as part of the course. This will be in the Radiography Department of a local hospital. You will need a Criminal Records Bureau check. Both will be arranged by the College.

What can I do after this course?
The Access to Radiography course is an accepted entry qualification for the BSc (Hons) Diagnostic Radiography or Therapeutic Radiography Courses at Birmingham City University and other universities. Students on these courses are eligible for NHS bursaries.
