Who is this course for?

This course is aimed at students interested in pursuing a career in in Motorsport, and obtaining a high-level, trade-related qualification at Technician level.

What qualifications or experience do I need ?

You will need five GCSE grades A* - C including a grade B in Maths and C in English, or a BTEC First Diploma in science or engineering Level 2. A satisfactory interview demonstrating an interest in and aptitude for the subject will be necessary.

What will I study ?

This course contains a number of specialist units focussing specifically on motorsport. Topics covered include; Operation of vehicle systems, vehicle fault diagnosis and rectification, vehicle technology project, motorsport working practices, motorsport vehicle preparation & inspection, professional practice & logistics, Computer Aided Drafting (CAD), Engineering Design You will also have the opportunity to study AS/A level Mathematics or Core Mathematics and the Extended Project qualification alongside this course. Students will visit mainstream manufacturers such as Ford, Honda, and Mazda UK, as well as motorsport teams such as Boreham Motorsport and FF Corse (Ferrari). Track day events will be held at Brands Hatch and Silverstone. Students will also run our motor racing team, (BSC Racing), competing at major race circuits throughout the country.

How will I be assessed ?

The course is assessed via coursework assignments. Theoretical work is supported by practical workshop lessons. Industrial visits to manufacturers, exhibitions and racetracks will also form part of the course.

What qualifications could I achieve ?

You will achieve a BTEC Level 3 Subsidiary Diploma in Vehicle Technology (Motorsports).

How do I join the course ?

You will need to complete an application form and return it to the admissions team either on-line or by post. You will then be interviewed by a member of the course team or other designated interviewer and may be required to complete a pre-enrolment assessment.

Any extra costs for equipment/materials ?

Whilst every attempt is made to keep the costs to the candidate to a minimum, the college reserves the right to charge candidates amounts over and above published fees in response to any additional charges from the awarding body. You will need to purchase the department uniform, protective boots and course books. You will also need to pay for some trips and visits
