Study Method:
The study methods are predominently practical, with some classroom input, toolbox talks and projects.
Duration :College attendance is required on Saturdays for one half day per week 8.30am-12.30pm for 32 weeks.
Who the Course is For:
Applications are welcomed from anyone with an interest in acquiring the skills, knowledge and techniques of a range of construction trades
Assessment:
There is continuous practical assessment, unit knowledge assessment and an end on line exam. The practical assessment is conducted by the college staff and verified by the City & Guilds of London institute.
Course Leads To:
On completion of this level 1 award, students will be in a position to make informal choices about progression into a trade area.
Entry Requirements:
There are no formal entry requirements but the course is aimed at mature learners who are interested in the construction trades.
Content:
All our courses are designed to cover the full range of topics and tasks as laid down by the awarding body in response to industry requirements. All practical activities are carried out within out start of the art workshops with theory work being a mix of classroom and assignment activities. The topics include:
Trowel Brickwork and Plastering
Carpentry Basic joints, first and second fixing
Painting & Decorating Preparation, application of coatings,
wallpapering and tiling.
Building Services Basic plumbing and electrical installation
Health & Safety H & S is a core theme that runs throughout
the programme
