WHY CHOOSE THIS COURSE?

This course has been designed with a large focus on your future employability. By choosing this course you will benefit from:

  • accreditation at Chartered Engineer level by the Chartered Institution of Building Services Engineers (CIBSE) on behalf of the Engineering Council;
  • links with several local and regional employers who have been involved with the development of the course and continue to contribute, ensuring that its content reflects current professional practice;
  • academic staff who are active researchers and consultants in their field and have professional industrial experience which they bring in to their teaching;
  • studying with a wide range of other professional disciplines in an integrated department of architecture, building and civil engineering, reflecting the modern interdisciplinary nature of construction projects;
  • the opportunity to take up to a year gaining practical experience in a supervised work placement.
WHAT WILL I LEARN?

You will be equipped with the advanced skills and knowledge to take a specialist role in the design and/or construction team working on major projects.

In addition, your personal tutor will review and discuss your progress with you and will be available for advice.

You will work with staff on real-world problems from industry, commerce and research groups, as you would in professional practice; this means that you develop all of the professional skills at the same time as you learn the technical content of your degree.

The course makes use of online learning technology. Some modules use this extensively to allow you to interact online in discussions and to carry out online tests to assess your progress. Staff use online marking and assessment tools that allow us to speed up and improve feedback.

Building Services Engineering students have access to the latest versions of CAD software including 2D, 3D and visualisation software, BIM software, and building performance analysis programmes together with products you may already be familiar with such as SketchUp.
