What can this course offer me?
Business Studies at KGV is incredibly popular with students and a large number of students take this subject each year.
Business Studies is designed to equip you with the business knowledge and skills required by the examination board but it also provides opportunities for you to develop a range of skills that are required in the wider working world such as communication, analysis, presentation, problem solving, decision-making and evaluation.
This mix of skills is mentioned year after year as among students' top reasons for "choosing and enjoying Business Studies".
Success rates and retention rates on the course are excellent. Highly experienced teachers deliver the subject - many have also been Examiners.
Many topical issues are covered during the course such as:
- Why do some businesses succeed and others fail?
- What is the best way to manage?
- How does new technology affect the way businesses operate?
What will I learn?
Extremely relevant subject content. Business Studies is one of only a few "live" subjects available - with fresh examples of both good (and poor!) practice emerging from the news almost daily.
A range of teaching methods are used including group work, role plays and simulations.
In the past we have also run several student conferences and industrial visits. All department staff incorporate ICT into learning and teaching at every opportunity, primarily through the use of interactive whiteboards.
What Makes a good Business student?
If you satisfy the College's general entrance requirements AND can display a keen & enthusiastic approach to learning, together with a willingness to contribute to this lively and vibrant subject, you will be offered a place.
Which other courses link well with this subject?
Virtually any! Business Studies combines effectively with a variety of others. In the past students have successfully combined sciences, languages, arts and humanities courses with Business.
Future Opportunities
The skills gained through studying this subject, and the fact that it complements many other disciplines means that a qualification in Business Studies can help with virtually any educational or employment progression.
Also, the majority of employment opportunities in the UK exist in the business sector- so any career development can be enhanced by an AS or A level in Business Studies. Students opting for a future career or degree in this area often combine with Accounting and/or Economics. A significant number of KGV students study business or related courses at university when they leave college. The skills you develop will help throughout your life!!
