Course content

What will you study on the BA Business Management (Supply Chain) (Top-up)?

The modules are designed to advance your skills and knowledge in business and management, and supply chain management.

You will learn to work effectively in teams, and be able to present and communicate business management ideas with confidence. We also ensure you develop specialist knowledge in:

  • Stakeholders: their expectations and behaviour
  • The environment of business and its impact on strategy
  • Design, production and distribution of products and services
  • Business resources: acquisition, application and control
  • Business process: planning, improvement and control
Modules

Procurement and Sourcing (30 credits) - Compulsory

This module aims to develop students’ understanding and knowledge of the purchasing function and related key activities. It will examine the processes associated with sourcing of supplier and procurement of goods from the suppliers. Students will be able to assess the challenges faced by the procurement department, requirements of various stakeholders, and develop strategic and operational procurement plans. Various analytical tools will be introduced for problem solving.

Strategic Management (30 credits) - Compulsory

The aims of this module are organised in two parts: in the first part students use the essential components of strategic analysis with the primary aim of developing an applied knowledge of tools and techniques. In the second part students explore a variety of special topics with the primary aim of examining strategy concepts applied in different organisations. Overall, the module aims to build students’ ability to process and interpret information from different internal functions and from multiple external sources for decision-making leading to long term organisational success.

Global Supply Chain Management (30 credits) - Compulsory

This module aims to develop your understanding on the integration of different business in creating value. It will demonstrate the effects of planning in multiple organisations and give you the experience on managing integrated business processes and developing a process understanding. It will present a integration of functional departments within and between different organisation.

Logistics (30 credits) - Optional

Logistics is a critical business function. It deals with all information and material flows pertaining to the delivery of goods and services from manufacturing to customer demand points. With ever increasing competition and increasingly stringent customer requirements, companies are forced to continuously reinvent their logistics service provision creating a robust demand for logistics professionals. This module aims to prepare you for such a role by imparting knowledge and skills in all key areas of logistics including network, location, transportation and warehouse design and planning.

Research Project (30 credits) - Optional

This module provides an excellent opportunity for you to demonstrate higher order employability skills such as the ability to design and deliver a small research project, learn independently and through supervision, and undertake an extended, methodical piece of work. A well-executed research project will give you something to distinguish yourself from your peers as well as the opportunity to show why you might be a superior candidate for graduate employment.

Where optional modules are available, you will be asked to make your choice during the previous academic year. If we have insufficient numbers of students interested in an optional module, or there are staffing changes which affect the teaching, it may not be offered. If an optional module will not run, we will advise you after the module selection period when numbers are confirmed, or at the earliest time that the programme team make the decision not to run the module, and help you choose an alternative module.
