Construction makes a significant contribution to the UK economy representing around 10% of GDP and employing 3 million people across the industry. However, ways of working are inefficient, wasteful and do not always result in the desired outcomes. BIM provides the opportunity to change this situation by making use of technology and reforming working practices to achieve significant economic and social benefits. It relates to BS8536.
The UK government aims to procure all publicly funded construction projects to what is now called BIM Level 2. Yet many people in the construction industry do not yet know what BIM is about, what it entails and how to get themselves or their organisation BIM ready.

About this course
This course will provide you with overall awareness and is suitable for anybody working on publicly funded construction projects. You will gain knowledge of fundamental concepts associated with BIM; from knowledge of key terminology to the principles and standards associated with BIM implementation in the UK. You will develop an understanding of the drivers leading to BIM implementation, the barriers to success and the benefits that can be gained.
BIM affects the whole supply chain therefore this course is appropriate whether you are a client, main contractor, subcontractor or designer. The use of Building Information Modelling (BIM) has the potential to improve the efficiency of the built environment; both in the construction process and operational use.
