Care NVQ Level 2
City and Guilds
Level: This is an NVQ Level 2 course.
What is the NVQ Care Level 2 course?
This NVQ course is a nationally recognised qualification that the Government recommends for all those working in a caring role and is aimed at students currently working as part of a team in a care setting.
It is designed to recognise the role you have in your workplace and give you credit for the activities you undertake there.
Course topics
  • Two Core Units
  • Two Optional Units
  • Two other Units either Core or Optiona
NB You will be guided in your choice of units.
Some students may wish to enhance their NVQ with additional qualifications in Food Safety and First Aid. Please note that these will need to be booked separately through the Adult Education Centre. An additional fee will be charged.

Teaching and Learning
The first session of the course will include Level 2 and Level 3 students and will take the form of individual interviews to ascertain the appropriate level for you to study. You will then be registered and allocated a place on the sessions that are at the appropriate level for you.

You will receive a City and Guilds assessment pack during the course at College and there will be sessions to help you build your portfolio. These taught sessions at College will give you additional knowledge and skills to perform your role more effectively. You will also receive assessment visits at your place of work by your allocated assessor.

Assessment details
You will be given a City and Guilds assessment pack and you will be required to produce a portfolio which will be internally and externally verified.

Progression
NVQ Care Level 3, once you are working in a supervisory role.

Notes
This is a Learning & Skills Council (LSC) funded course and you may be exempt from the tuition fee, however you would be required to pay the registration fee at the time of application. Tuition fees for overseas students may vary from those quoted.

If you do not already have a full level 2 qualification (ie 5 GCSEs

A* - C, or an NVQ Level 2 equivalent qualification) you may qualify for free tuition and registration fees through Train to Gain

Extra costs : Course book approximately £15, writing materials and notebook/A4 file.
